Celebrating their 30th anniversary, The Blues Brothers continue on their “mission from Gahd,” but now with Vatican approval. Hopefully that means we'll get a really shiny limited edition DVD complete with cherubs and a personalized blessing from the Pope.
"L'Osservatore Romano," the Vatican's official newspaper, called the film a "Catholic classic" and said it should be recommended viewing for Catholics everywhere. [THR]
Though John Belushi has long since passed (pour one out for him), the legend of the rock 'n' rolling orphans lives on, and apparently it's a top pick for Catholics. I mean James Brown, Cab Calloway, Ray Charles, Aretha Franklin, John Lee Hooker, Carrie Fisher, Steven Spielberg and Mr. T are in it. +10 for taste, Catholics (probably the only time I'll ever say that).
Reminisce below with the original trailer and have your face melted off by the soundtrack. If you haven't seen these guys live (with Jim Belushi replacing his brother), make a point to.
