The entertainment industry is mourning the death of respected Canadian-American Actor Maury Chaykin who passed away yesterday in Toronto on his 61st birthday.

The Brooklyn, NY native was a quintessential character actor, playing a wide range of roles over the course of his 35-year career.

Known for his versatility, Chaykin appeared in such films as My Cousin Vinny, Dances With Wolves, Mask of Zorro, WarGames, and Whale Music, for which he won a Genie Award (Canada’s equivalent to The Oscars). The actor had a gift for inhabiting both comedic and dramatic roles and in a radio interview for CBC Radio he said his personal favorite roles were those that he played in the films Whale Music, Unstrung Heroes, and The Adjuster.

In recent years Chaykin was perhaps best known for his portrayal of detective Nero Wolfe on the A&E television series A Nero Wolfe Mystery and for his work on the HBO series Entourage where he played hot-tempered producer Harvey Weingard.
