Matt Stone and Trey Parker have been hard at work creating a new musical called The Book of Mormon (if there's one things those guys love, it's Mormons). We've already reported on it in the past, but now they've set the dates and ironed out some of the details…

A religious satire with song-and-dance numbers, The Book of Mormon is scheduled to open March 24 at the Eugene O'Neill Theatre, according to reports Monday. Previews are set to begin Feb. 24. Casey Nicholaw, who received Tony nominations for directing The Drowsy Chaperone and Thoroughly Modern Millie, will stage the new musical, along with Parker. Nicholaw most recently directed the premiere of Robin and the 7 Hoods at the Old Globe in San Diego.

I don't know a lot about musical theater, but I remember seeing a poster for The Drowsy Chaperone once and thinking, "Yep, that chaperone sure looks drowsy." So I'm sure Casey Nicholaw is very good at directing musicals and making chaperones drowsy.

Also, this has been common knowledge for a while, but Robert Lopez, one of the guys behind Avenue Q, is working alongside Matt and Trey. The Book of Mormon is about two Mormon missionaries proselytizing in Uganda. Alongside that, the musical will also depict the story of Joseph Smith, the founder of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I know this isn't possible, but wouldn't it be great if they printed their Playbills on golden plates? That or magic underwear.
