Well, this doesn't sound like a real thing at all! You mean to tell my Ricky Gervais, Jerry Seinfeld, Louis CK and Chris Rock are going to be on a TV special together talking about comedy? Next you're going to tell me that there is some team of superheroes out there comprised of Batman, Superman, Aquaman, Wonder Woman as well as THE WONDER TWINS! INCONCEIVABLE!
Ricky Gervais is to appear alongside Chris Rock, Jerry Seinfeld and Louis CK on a one-off comedy talk show.
The special, Talking Funny will feature the A-list comics talking about their craft and is being made for the HBO network.
Although there's no indication he spearheaded this project, it definitely sounds like something Ricky Gervais would come up with (remember the ill-fated Ricky Gervais Meets… series?) Seinfeld's Comedian and the CD Jerry Seinfeld on Comedy are both important resources for aspiring comedians, and almost every interview Louis CK gives has a few comedy wisdom nuggets. And Chris Rock has been outspoken about his views on comedy, but it'd be nice to see him dedicate a chunk of time to his specific philosophy. All in all, this has the makings to be pretty amazing. And if it proves successful, will we see more?
If it is a success, the network will follow it up with Talking Toons, with animation gurus, like Seth McFarlane, and Acting Funny with comedy actors such as Zach Galifianakis.
Zach Galifianakis at this point is even being attached to speculative one-off talk show specials? That's got to be the point you realize you're a huge star, right?
