They say in musical theater, characters are so swept up with emotion that common dialogue can no longer suffice, that they must burst into song to pay proper homage to their own feelings. They also say that if people don't start buying tickets, they'll replace every show with The Great Skatsby: A 1920s Bluesical. That second thing they say is just a disgusting, empty threat, but the first thing recently proved beautifully true on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.
