It's amazing what you can learn when a renowned astrophysicist and whip-smart television host sit on stage for an hour talking about "life stuff." Never lick a flagpole in February? Who knew? I've been committing this very error every year since I was three!
Back in January 2010, Stephen Colbert and Neil DeGrasse Tyson participated in just such a discussion at the Kimberley Academy in New Jersey, the video of which was just released on the Hayden Planetarium website. Intriguingly, Colbert is (mostly) out of character during the lengthy interview, which touches on high-minded topics like bioethics, science's relation to faith, and a long sequence about pie that made me very hungry.
In case you've never heard of Neil DeGrasse Tyson or seen his frequent spots on The Colbert Report, he's kind of a big deal in the science community. Yeah, dude even has his own asteroid. Also, according to Wikipedia, in 2000 he was voted People Magazine's Sexiest Astrophysicist Alive, which I hope is true, since it's pretty much the awesomest thing to be voted. Ever.
The Colbert Report airs Monday through Thursday at 11:30/10:30c.
