In honor of last week's Season Three premiere of Ugly Americans, web zine Fear Net chatted with co-star Kurt Metzger, who voices Mark Lilly's perpetually decaying undead roommate Randall Skeffington. They discuss, among other things, the unexpected success of the show, horrible American accents, and Kurt's childhood past as a Jehovah's Witness:
"Growing up, I was always in trouble … because I really liked sci-fi and horror. I'm a fan now. I would have been forbidden to watch Ugly Americans just because it depicts a demon, and you are supposed to have a fear for these fictitious characters. I got in trouble [when I was a kid] because I had the Dungeons & Dragons monster compendium. I was like 11 and I got in huge trouble because [my parents thought] I could bring a demon into the house. I remember my mother, a grown adult, saying that to me, and I thought it was just insane."
Who knew? Kurt Metzger and Kirk Cameron, like two ships passing in the night. Well, Kurt, we're glad it worked out the way it did. I don't think Mike Seaver could play zombie convincingly.
Catch the next episode of Ugly Americans Wednesday night at 10:30/9:30c right after South Park. If you missed the premiere, you can watch it here.
