Gallagher Teaches Us How to Make Pickled Whorebread

Posted by:

Comedy_gallagherOkay, we're a little late on this one, but you'll have to forgive us. We've been sifting through the INCREDIBLE tales of the Gallagher show last Friday, and it certainly leaves us both wishing we were there, and incredibly grateful that we weren't.

Thanks to our friends at The Apiary and The Comics Comic and their detailed accounts, we've been able to piece together some terrifying highlights from the evening, which include a recipe for "pickled whorebread." We'll save that for the end.

-Since Gallagher could not sell out the 300 seat theater, an opening act of four comedians took the stage and endured constant interruptions from Gallagher himself, who tried to steal the spotlight at one point by taking off his shirt and wearing a goofy hat. Pictures here.

-Gallagher alienated and eventually removed a chatty couple in the audience. This did not resolve itself quickly, and led to a showdown between the irate boyfriend and Gallagher. Footage after the bump.

-According to Gallagher, "This is the smartest show you'll ever go to." This was in the midst of his apparently low-brow set filled with jokes about gay people and handicaps, and prior to his smashing things with a large wooden mallet.

-And here it is: Early in the evening, when the first opening comedian was doing his set, Gallagher rushed up and advised him to go right for the jokes, and then gave an example. "How do you make pickled whorebread?" Gallagher asked. "Dill dough."

Steve Jobs Wishes He Was Stephen Colbert

Posted by:

Colbert_thumbs I bet right now, Steve Jobs totally wishes he was Stephen Colbert.* But he's not, which means that Steve Jobs is NOT Media Magazine's Person of the Year. Because Stephen Colbert is.

Yes, Stephen Colbert is Media Magazine's Person of the Year. Naturally, we're very proud. Media Magazine explains why:

In the past we chose people – iGod Steve Jobs in 2006, and inconvenient-truth teller Al Gore in 2007 – whom we believed had the greatest overall impact on the world of media during the preceding 12 months. This year, we are picking Colbert for what he symbolizes: The pseudo nature of modern media's mash-up, faux culture, and perhaps more significantly, how it shapes our actual culture.

Sure, we'll take it. But most importantly:

Colbert moved us. He moved us to laugh. And he moved us to think. And in so doing, succeeded where countless other political satirists failed. And he did it during what arguably has been a time in which potent political poking was needed more than ever. He did it by playing the part so well that it has often been difficult to know exactly which side he is poking.

Rumors Are Flying: Has SNL Found Their Obama?

Posted by:

GloverSeldom is the buzz so damn loud. Word in the community is that Donald Glover from the NY sketch comedy group Derrick will be joining SNL to fill the gap that Obama's political presence has created. The initial reports were scooped from the LA Times forum, put forth by the moderator. I'm not going to lie. I witnessed Glover's Obama impression at a late night Derrick show two months back and it's fantastic.

But the rumors don't end there. According to the Chicago Sun-Times, he will debut THIS weekend. Yes. That's right.

Now, I'm not an egotistical man. No, not at all. But I did say literally 3  weeks ago: "Mark my word, Donald Glover WILL join SNL within the next 3 years." If the rumors are true, the world owes me a coke.
