Our Absurd Prediction: Cheney Steps Down??

January 4, 2007 AT 02:45PM | Comments (10)

Cheney_2Condoleezza_rice_2 Remember when our Election Night guest-blogger floated the rumor on this blog that Rumsfeld would resign the following day, and nobody believed it, but then it actually came true and we got all this attention for it because it was so funny that the Comedy Central blog "scooped" the real media? Well, From a source exactly as reliable as that one was at the time (which is to say: we know this guy has really important sources, but who knows?):

"If Dick Cheney steps down next month and is replaced as Vice President by Condi Rice, you heard it here, first."

We place this rumor here, on the Comedy Central blog, where it least belongs, and cross our fingers until next month, when we can either do the I Told You So Dance or, well, nobody will remember we ever said anything. Whatever the implications for our great country, it's win-win for us!

This is the only communique avenue i could find for the show to tell you about this article. Don't know if it would change the writing or taping of the show, not trying to activate, just let the writers see,.

Is Comedy Central hiring?

Only after O'Reilly is on Colbert.

I doubt it, but that'd be funny. If Cheney does step down, he'll probably step back in if the Gingrich/Giuliani administration wins. Cheney may wanna step down so he can cash in all his Iraq War chips. Not that he already doesn't have tens of millions in the bank. But the richer you get, the closer you get to vertical on the accelerated curve of wealth. It doesn't matter who replaces him, should this happen... the same behavior will result. Although Cheney is a supreme authoritarian, the problem is systemic within our network of bureaucracies. So no matter what authoritarian you put there, if that person does their job well, America will become more militaristic and less free.
Damn we're screwed. Unless... we dissipate power amidst those security bureaucracies. And shut some of them down too. The easiest way to do that is expose the inherent mutually beneficial relationship between our security agencies and terrorist organizations. Damn, you guys should have me on the Daily Show or Colbert Report.

It would be so crazy if this came true. You guys should just start predicting random things!

I'm going out on a limb here and use Hawkeye Pierce's goodbye to Frank Burns:

"So long, ferret-face!"

I think people are missing the REAL REASON CHENEY MIGHT RESIGN. Has anyone heard of the SCOOTER LIBBY TRIAL? It seems our friend Mr.Cheney is a bit more involved with that then we thought. If he does, its to not disgrace him later when HE might be indicted on criminal charges. Any takers?

You should know that the Economist's US politics blog is running your rumour, so the virus is spreading. Good luck for scoop #2.

you may still be right, although early ... http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/03/07/AR2007030702044.html

lede of this op-ed in today's Washington Post:
"Is the vice president losing his influence, or perhaps his mind? That question, even if it is phrased more delicately, is creeping through foreign ministries and presidential offices abroad and has become a factor in the Bush administration's relations with the world."

apparently his "physical, emotional and political health" is being called into quesstion by our foreign allies...
