The CC Insider/InDecider has just heard more rumors (see earlier posts) from a SECOND reliable source that Dick Cheney will be stepping down as Vice President and will be replaced as Vice President by Condoleezza Rice. And now we're hearing that she would like to be on the ticket as the GOP VP candidate in '08.
According to our rumor-meister, John Negroponte will be filling Condi's current position as Secretary of State. Negroponte is currently was until recently* the Director of National Intelligence (the first person ever to hold the few-years-old position) and the former US Ambassador to Iraq.
If these rumors are true, this is all interesting for several reasons:
- Condi would be the first African American and first woman in the White House, which would certainly take some of the wind out of the Dems Clinton/Obama sails.
- If Rice were on the GOP ticket, it would--in some sense--make an incumbant VP, which could be good or bad. (Remember, Bush currently has a 33% approval rating.)
- With Rice, Clinton and Obama all vying for a White House position, it would make it a virtual lock that we'd finally break the African American and/or woman barrier in '08.
- It would put someone with close ties to the Iraqi situation in a very high administrative seat.
- It would be only the second time in history that an acting Vice President was like totally in love with the sitting President. (See Garret Hobart/William McKinley.)
*UPDATE: As a few commenters have pointed out, Negroponte is no longer the Director of National Intelligence. (See what happens when you don't fact check?) Thanks for watching my back.

This is just another typical example of White House nepotism: now Georgy Boy gets his long-time girlfriend a new job before he hands the keys to the WH back to some democratic floozy.

1. Bush is at 28% as of Tuesday.
2. How on earth would Condi be able to negotiate a VP spot on a ticket that doesn't even exist yet. Are any of the GOP frontrunners remotely beholden to the current administration to the point of taking on a liability like a die-hard Bush loyalist with Iraq's stink all over her as his running mate? I think not. Maybe, just maybe, if Rudy gets the nod, which he won't, he'd be interested in a complete let's-exploit-9/11 ticket. But would Brownback or McCain or Romney want her? Very doubtful.

"...VP...totally in love with the sitting President."
Condi?
Wait a minute...as to your last point, and if I follow your logic...are you implying that W. is a lesbian?

I believe Negroponte stepped down - in fact walked out - as Director about a month ago. He has taken a position as an underling to Rice.

And leave his post overlooking Halliburton's Iraq contract?! Ha!

She would also be the first Vice President who had served as the National Security Advisor on whose watch occurred the largest national security disaster in our history.
Ignoring the prior warnings of imminent terrorist attack are her prime accomplishment in public office, prior to her involvement in the Iraq war fiasco.
Superstar!

This makes sense on so many levels -- despite what that old poop said on Olbermann's show last night.
It sets up Condi -- not as VP, but as the heir apparent. (As if a neocon had a chance of winning in '08, but what the hey... a theory is a theory.)
The attacks have to be wearing on Cheney, which is why he went to such extreme lengths to beat up, shoot, field dress, and eat the mortal remains of Wolf Blitzer on CNN Wednesday. The evil essence of darkness that possesses the decrepit body of the former Wyoming congressman will likely seek a new host as Cheney rocks his lezbeen grandchild on his bony knee in retirement.
And it sets up a really interesting battle in 2008 -- why vote for a Hillary/Obama ticket when you get WOMAN and BLACK in ONE LIZARD-LIKE PACKAGE?

I don't know if the Borg dismantling technology has been perfected to the point where Cheney can be disassembled...

The evil spirit of darkness will just issue out of Cheney's body, like a black mist -- maybe from his nose. Cheney will blink and ask someone what year it is, and will then weep in shame for his complicity in the fiasco of the last six years.
The spirit will seek its new host. Probably Duncan Hunter. We're not sure yet.

Even if Cheney does step down, there's no way the Senate will confirm Condi. She'd need a majority in both houses of congress to become VP, and she won't get it.
Are there any Republican senators out there from states that have Democratic governors? I'm just sayin...

Hmm...Condoleeza Rice, eh? Funny...I heard she had an illegitimate white child....

Now it all makes sense! At the SOTU, Condi may have looked really angry in her close-ups, but she was really just doing her best Cheney impersonation. She was auditioning for VP!

With Condi as VP, Georgies Nabisco would closer to his mothers warm milk. Then we may see if Georgie really does eat the filling first.

Condi as VP? Pure genius! Too bad Obama and Hillary are totally SOL now.
Here's a cool site where you can go to town on predicitions because its 100% based on predictions: www.itys.com
I'm predicting that Tim Russert will morph into Bush's new scapegoat for the Valerie Plame leak...oh wait...he's testifying in court today...?

My sources report that Chaney is to be sent to Baghdad to take over running the place from the morons he sent earlier. Also it gives the suicide bombers a big fat target which, with any luck, will shortly deplete the supply of willing martyrs.

I live near Pittsburgh PA and Comedy Central went black on Comcast soon after 'lil Bush was aired and is still that way as of this writing. No other stations affected, which is weird because usuallu they go out in groups based on their corporate origination. I can't get anyone on the phone at Comcast, they "escalated" my chat request for info and never got back to me, and haven't answered my email yet. Has anyone else experienced a blackout of Comedy Central?
