And the Most Anticipated Comedy Movie of the Summer Is...

June 22, 2007 AT 12:20PM | Comments (1)

(All week, we've been counting down the results of our informal Summer of Laughter poll, in which I asked writers, comedians, friends, and CC Insider contributors which comedy movie they're most looking forward to this summer.)

And the number one Most Anticipated Summer Comedy is....

Winona_dummy_2 #1: The Ten
Release date: August 3
Official Site/Trailer: thetenmovie.com

It came as no surprise that a bunch of comedy nerds were going to choose this movie for our #1 spot -- from the hilarious trailer to Sundance raves to the fact that it was directed by David Wain (Wet Hot American Summer), this is the movie we will all be seeing on opening night. (We've been covering The Ten since January, after all!)

Choice Quotes:

"The comedy I'm most looking forward to this summer is THE TEN, mostly because WET HOT AMERICAN SUMMER has the highest lpm (laughs per minute) ratio of any movie I've seen. It also has the highest mph (minutes per hour) ratio of any movie I've ever seen (60, tied with many others)." - Neil Campbell, Comedian and Cartoonist

“Just look at the cast. Holy smokes.” - Chris Principe, CC Insider Contributor

(The rest of the people quoted here are in the movie):

The Ten! I actually have a brief singing part on the rap song during the final credits. I sing “Yeeeeaaaaahhhhh!” - Craig Baldo, Comedian

(After praising other movies by The State alumni...) "The movie I'm most excited about, though, is definitely THE TEN.  First of all it's by some guys from THE STATE, which was bar none, the best sketch comedy - no f**k it - the best television show of all time.  Ah screw it.  The State was the best thing, of any kind, of all time.  And what a cast!  Adam Brody, Paul Rudd, Famke Janssen, Jessica Alba, Bobby Cannavale, Rob Corddry, Kerri Kenney-Silver, Joe Lo Truglio, Ken Marino, A. D. Miles, Gretchen Mol, Oliver Platt, Ron Silver, Winona Ryder, Liev Schreiber, Justin Theroux, Mather Zickel, Jason Sudeikis, Michael Showalter, Michael Ian Black, Thomas Lennon, Robert Ben Garant....I'm out of breath!  And it's by the director of WET HOT AMERICAN SUMMER, which is one of the top thirty summer camp comedies of the last decade." - David Wain, Director of "The Ten"

"The Ten-- to see if anyone "gets" it, to see if any Christian Conservative group gets all "uppity" about it." - Joe Lo Truglio,  Also in The Ten

Salacious SketchFest NYC Gossip - Volume 2

June 5, 2006 AT 05:12PM | Comments (1)

Sketchfestbanner

SketchFest NYC begins this Thursday.  23 of the nation's best sketch comedy troupes have been summoned to the city to perform FULL sets, in PACKED houses, in front of audiences COKED UP on laughter.

--THE ANIMAL CLUB from Chicago will be premiering scenes from their all-silent show. Hmm.. that sounds suspiciously like a) miming, b) interpretive dancing, and c) heaven.

--What sketch group from Boston (Slow Children at Play) has a name that bears a strong resemblance to a forgotten 90's alternative grunge-trio from Cleveland (Deaf Children at Play)? It's too bad the Deaf Children don't have a Geocities page or something equally retarded from back then or else we would link them.

--We've been told that one of the members of THE CODY RIVERS SHOW is a vegan! No one told us this was gonna be a freak show.

--Sexy Britt Erickson from TROOP! is betrothed!

--Seth Herzog will be hosting the closing night Craptacular--a show where sketch groups try out their weirdest most insane material.

--Will Michael Showalter be the super special guest DJ on closing night? Or will it be Craig Baldo? And what's all the chatter about hotel parties?

Playgirl Magazine: Humor! Comedian Interviews! Random Un-funny Sexual Organs!

Mirman

As we mentioned last week, on Friday the CC Insider(s) attended the release party for Playgirl Magazine's humor issue, which includes interviews and/or humor pieces by such comedians as Eugene Mirman (above at the party with Inland Empire Touring's Robin Taylor), Todd Barry, Mike Birbiglia, Craig Baldo, and more. After reading the issue, we now know much more than we ever wanted to about comedy groupies, and after perusing our gift bag, we now have enough birthday/bachelorette party presents for the rest of our respective 20's.

Related: See Eugene Mirman this weekend with Leo Allen and Michael Showalter at the Warsaw in Brooklyn.
