Auditions for The Gong Show with Dave Attell

May 9, 2008 AT 03:49PM | Comments (0)

53190143 I'm excited about Comedy Central's new version of The Gong Show, because in 25 years we'll get to see a cool movie about how Dave Attell (played by Sam Rockwell, Jr.) juggled a secret life as a CIA operative while hosting the show. But you should be excited about the show because it's an opportunity to be on television, just like Ellen Burstyn in Requiem for a Dream!

If you think you have what it takes, here are the audition details:

Comedy Central and host Dave Attell are looking for the most unusual, absurd, bizarre, twisted and unique performers out there.

All acts are welcome to submit – cutting edge variety, stupid human tricks, stupid animal tricks, the more insane the better!

This summer series will be taping soon so don't miss the chance to have your act seen by millions as we celebrate the absurd!

To set up your live audition in Los Angeles or Las Vegas, call at 310.840.5721.

Email your name, phone number, type of act, and any links, photos, or videos that showcase your act to: gongshowcasting@aol.com.

Address:  10601 W. Washington Blvd., Culver City, CA  90232 (old bank building, across Sony Studios & Starbucks, at Overland & Washington Blvd.)  Free Parking!

Jamie Kennedy's documentary Heckler has been hitting the festival circuit for the past few months, and now a NSFW trailer has been posted on the movie's MySpace page. It's got a lot of people you like in it:

Dave Attell: Now with More Breathing Room

December 4, 2007 AT 03:27PM | Comments (0)

Attellsmokespunchlinemagazine Hot off his well-received performance at Sunday's Last Laugh 07, standup Dave Attell is going to be appearing in his first ever one-hour HBO special, this Saturday night at 10pm EST. If you're wondering what to expect from the show, look no further than Punchline, where Attell did a recent interview:

How different is Captain Miserable than your first CD or your last DVD?
It’s not very different. It’s still drinking and sex jokes. I do some travel stuff. I talk about doing the USO tour a little bit. It’s jokey. I think that’s what people like about the Skanks for the Memories CD— there’s a lot of jokes on it. And people love those jokes. They way they edited that, there was no time in between each joke; there was very little breathing room.

This one maybe has more breathing room in the material. But I agree with fans when they say CDs are the way to go. Sometimes they like to listen to them in the car as background. With a DVD, you really have to devote your whole body and consciousness to it.

For the whole thing, check out Dave Attell: Captain Comedy.
