Starting on Tuesday June 3rd at 8:30 pm and ending on Thursday,
June 5th at 10:30 pm, Comic Strip Live will set the Guinness World
Record for the Longest Stand Up Comedy Show. For 50 continuous hours,
there will be laughter without end with the country’s brightest stars
shining on stage.
Audiences can expect over 100 professional stand up comedians to grace the Comic Strip Live stage.
Perhaps more intriguing is that the club is also offering an open invitation to both Dane Cook and Dave Chappelle to one-up each other in their continuing stand-up marathon champ battle. Perhaps Dave's recent surprise set was merely a warm-up, like Joey Chestnut polishing a rack of ribs before the Coney Island hot dog contest?
Regardless of whether or not Dave and/or Dane show up, proceeds from the event will go to support the USO. That means it's for the troops, son.
I wonder if forcing Gallagher to smash watermelons at gunpoint for 50 continuous hours qualifies as stand-up, but that is something I would also like to see.
Just after midnight and four comics down, the host came back on and mused
about it being his favorite part of the show because the audience had no idea
how many comics were left. It could be two, or it could be fifty eight. And
that’s when he surprised us all by saying a special guest had dropped by and
DAVE CHAPPELLE walked on stage!! We found out that the Comedy Village is closing
on May 10th and Dave popped by to deliver one final performance at the place
where he began his career 20 years ago. He reminisced on how he put the bricks
in place behind the stage and wondered why the Christmas lights were still up
from 1994.
Here's more:
The performance itself was a masterclass! Dave went non-stop for four hours and
did a great job of engaging the intimate crowd and even called people on stage.
For instance, he called on a couple of girls who entered with huge shopping
bags. Turns out they were catching a flight to San Francisco for a bachelorette
party but not before Dave had gone through the entire contents of the
bags—dildos and weird lingerie included. Later on Dave had a personal moment
which reminded him of his sketch work. He asked a guy from the front row to
slowly lift a chair up high above his head with a look of astonishment as Dave
played the HEROES theme music from his iPod (while sticking the mic to
his headphones).
Apart from being able to watch Meet Joe Black on a perpetual loop free and legally, the most exciting thing for me about Hulu has been the availability of the legendary Dana Carvey Show. Sadly and oddly though, the first episode was not initially included. Some say the depiction of Bill Clinton nursing live puppies remains as controversial today as it was when it first aired. Whether that was the case or not, it's no longer keeping the episode off your computer, because it's now on Hulu:
Don't tell The Beeper King, but I prefer my communications to be two-way. That's why I have both a mouth andears. It's also why there's a second can at the end of the string that runs from my house to Rue McClanahan's. And it's why there are comments on this blog. So let's use them. Here are some questions for you:
What's the dirtiest and/or most offensive thing you've seen on Comedy Central? What is the dirtiest Reno 911! episode? What are the dirtiest Crank Yankers calls? Who are the dirtiest comedians on Comedy Central? Barring anything with nudity (sorry, Tubgirl!), what are some of the most hilariously offensive and offensively hilarious things that you've seen on the internet?
Put your answers in the comments. But first, here's something to grease your mind-wheels a little:
He said he decided to break a
record set by U.S. comedian Dane Cook who did a 7-hour set at
Hollywood's Laugh Factory last December, the Canadian Broadcasting
Corp., said. However, comedian Robby Wagner gave a 10-hour routine on
March 9 at Toso's Sports Grill in Phoenix, an Internet search of news
releases showed.
Part of Tazz's 88-page set list included
references to his own battles with bipolar depression and attention
deficit disorder, the Sun said.
An anonymous comment below the article takes issue with the mention of Wagner's alleged performance and says Tazz has submitted his claim to Guinness. So who really has the record now? Beats the hell out of me, but I predict David Blaine will soon crush all previous records with a 97-hours standup set from inside a shark-infested underwater volcano... on the Moon!
Comedian Matt Ruby, the fine gentleman who operates Sandpaper Suit, has done you a favor, and you didn't even have to ask. He combed through the video archives of The Charlie Rose Show and compiled almost every comedian interview from the show, spanning more than a decade. Four Jon Stewart interviews, a pre-Curb Larry David interview, Steve Martin in 96, 98 and 08, they're all right in one place along with a couple dozen other interviews with great comics. Like who? Like Stephen Colbert, seen here in December, 2006:
After the jump, check out the first Jon Stewart appearance on the show, from August, 2001.
