Scott Aukerman Interviews Judd Apatow and Paul Feig

Posted by:

IFC has been airing Scott Aukerman's Comedy Death Ray interviews with comedians in between commercial breaks during their new classic comedy block. They've interviewed people like Sarah Silverman, Andy Dick, Janeane Garofalo and Bob Odenkirk. All great people! Last night, they aired the first segments from interviews conducted with Judd Apatow and Paul Feig, who created Freaks and Geeks. We're seeing more places for comedian interviews on TV. It's interesting to note because it hints that there's a demand for this type of content from a wider audience than just me and my TMNT action figures.

Sarah Silverman and Andy Dick Talk to Scott Aukerman For IFC's Comedy Death Ray Block

Posted by:

We linked to the news that Scott Aukerman would be hosting a comedy block on IFC that includes The Larry Sanders Show, The Ben Stiller Show and Mr. Show. Comedy nerd orgasm blah blah blah. I assumed Scott's role in the programming block would be like Robert Osborne on TCM, "Originally, Bob Odenkirk's smut-obsessed Senator was to be played by Charles Laughton." Apparently, it's going to be more neatly tied into the Comedy Death Ray brand, featuring interviews with Scott's famous friends. IFC already has some clips featuring Sarah Silverman and Andy Dick.

There are a few more interview clips featuring Sarah and Andy Dick over at IFC's Comedy Death Ray site. They've also got interviews with David Cross, Ben Stiller and Michael Cera listed in their "coming soon" section.

Conan O'Brien and Andy Richter Are the Bread to My Galifianakis Sandwich

Zach Galifianakis interviewed Conan O'Brien and Andy Richter on Between Two Ferns! AWESOME! Did you know Conan O'Brien was my favorite person when I was ten years old? Did you know Zach Galifianakis will be my favorite person when I am thirty years old? He's not my absolute favorite person now because as I reach adulthood, I'm gaining a new-found respect for my parents, making them my new favorite people. But I'll be done with them by thirty, and then it's Zach's turn.

Atom.com, the digital comedy network and COMEDY CENTRAL's anchor brand for original digital content, announced it has signed a new deal with comedian Andy Dick and will premiere today the second season of his Internet talk show, “House Arrest With Andy Dick.” The snarky Webisodes feature comedian Dick interviewing his celebrity pals in his home, where he is detained for drug-related charges.

Comedy Central Announces 09/10 Development Slate

Posted by:

comedy_central_blueyellowExciting news today, as Comedy Central unveiled their latest development slate, which features projects from a variety of talents, including Jamie Foxx, Ron White, Andy Dick, Judah Friedlander and The Sklar Brothers. They've also given the official greenlight to the new series Ugly American.

Developed and executive produced by David Stern (“The Simpsons”), “Ugly Americans” (working title) is a half-hour animated series based on an original idea by illustrator Devin Clark, who will serve as a producer. “Ugly Americans” takes place in an alternate universe New York City where creatures from horror, fantasy and science-fiction live among us as ordinary citizens. Mark Lilly, a human social worker for the Department of Immigration, helps new citizens, both human and fantastic, adapt to life in the Big Apple. When he’s not helping warlocks, land-whales, vampires and man-birds adjust to human society, Mark is trying to keep his own life in check. Unfortunately, his zombie roommate, wizard boss and demon girlfriend can’t always be relied upon for help. Dan Powell is the executive in charge of production for COMEDY CENTRAL.

"During these tough economic times our viewers need a good laugh now more than ever," said Corrao. "With the pick-up of ‘Ugly Americans,’ our viewers will be able to escape into a fantasy world like they’ve never seen before."

Projects in development range from animated to sketch/variety to scripted narrative and feature a cross-section of top comedic talent including Jamie Foxx, Ron White, Andy Dick, Judah Friedlander, Ice Cube and Randy and Jason Sklar and feature top producers including Michael Eisner, David Stern, Principato-Young and Double Features' Michael Shamberg and Stacey Sher.

Some of the shows that have been greenlit for pilot production and script development include: the untitled Ron White show based on White's "everyman" point-of-view featuring in-studio and man-on-the-street segments; a sports comedy show from the Sklar brothers which is executive produced by Michael Eisner and centers around two brothers who are the heirs to a major sports conglomerate; an outrageous sketch-variety show from Andy Dick; "The Life," which follows a one-hit wonder music star and is executive produced and written by Ice Cube and DJ Pooh in their first project together since collaborating on the hit film "Friday"; "Ghosts/Aliens," which follows two friends quest to expose the truth about the existence of ghosts and aliens and is executive produced by Scott Aversano and Phil Johnston; and "Midwest Teen Sex Show," an "instructional" sex sketch show executive produced by Principato-Young and Double Features.

In addition, COMEDY CENTRAL is ramping up its animation development slate with projects that include: a Jamie Foxx workplace comedy based on his Sirius/SM satellite radio program, "The Foxxhole;" "Gypsy Cab," which stars "30 Rock's" Judah Friedlander as a whacked-out cab driver; and from Dan Vebber ("Futurama," "American Dad") comes "The Invadersteins," the story of a family of aliens who stayed behind after an alien invasion of Earth failed.

The Ten Wildest Comedians

Posted by:

5235375As most college students either wrap up or begin a wild spring break, no doubt an R-rated week filled with drug and alcohol use, some nudity and adult situations, most comedians will sit in their New York apartments watching daytime television, obsessing over minute observations and minor annoyances.

It's true that most comics are socially handicapped nerds. But at least ten of them are not. At least ten comedians (probably just ten comedians, no more, no less) are or were wild-eyed, debauched party animals, consuming any drink or substance placed in front of them. These comedians were like that text-book staple poem "We real cool. We skip school. We jazz June. We die soon. We write dick jokes." This list is about those ten.

10. Russell Brand

For years now, Russell Brand has been England's bad boy. He's caused controversy wherever he's gone, pushing the boundaries of taste, dismissing the concept of "too soon." In his autobiography, My Booky Wook, Brand regales the reader with illicit tales of drug and alcohol abuse. After battling his addictions, which included heroin as well as booze, Brand has lived clean since 2002. But his sex habits have not died down. He is famous for his ability to woo almost any woman into sex (shagging, rogering, etc.).
