Louis CK Wins Best Comedy Album Grammy!

Posted by:

Despite taking home the awards for Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Album of the Year, Best Zydeco Recording, Best Hidden Track, Wax Cylinder of the Year, Best Spoken Word Electronic Klezmer Recording and a whole slew of others at last night's Grammy's, Adele somehow managed to not win the Best Comedy Album. No, instead that one went to Louis CK, who won for his Comedy Central Records release Hilarious. A big congratulations to Louis and all the other nominees!

Vote for #SheenRoast in the Social Media Influencer Awards

Posted by:

Sure it pretty much completely neglected Friendster and Prodigy, but you have to admit The Comedy Central Roast of Charlie Sheen still had a hell of a social media presence. It was nothing short of a fully integrated, tweetastic, second-screen synergasm. So why not give credit where credit is due and vote for the Sheen Roast in The Social Media Society's Influencer Awards. Voting ends tomorrow, so hurry!

Best of 2011: The Comedy Awards

Posted by:

A year ago, most people would have said we needed more awards shows like we needed more shows about people getting additional holes in their heads (incidentally, don't miss Head-Holers, coming next Spring to TLC). But while we might not have needed more awards shows in general, we did need more good awards shows. And we got one in 2011 with the inaugural Comedy Awards.

The Comedy Awards are returning in 2012,  but in the meantime, here are our favorite moments from the first one:

Stephen Colbert Hijacks Jon Stewart's Speech
I don't know about you, but I'd be way more likely to watch The Nobel Prize ceremony if there was more stage-storming.

Futurama, Jon Benjamin Has a Van, Colbert and Daily Show Receive WGA Nods

Posted by:

Last night, the second annual American Country Awards were held, and for the second year straight, Comedy Central was completely shut out. I'm not going to lie, it hurts. The mood around here is pretty glum today. But there is a glimmer of hope, because the latest Writers Guild of America Awards nominees were just announced, and unlike the country and western music community, the WGA has not shunned us.

Not only did Futurama receive a nomination in the Animation category for The Silence of the Clamps, but Comedy Central totally dominated the Comedy/Variety category with three of the seven nominees: Jon Benjamin Has a Van, The Daily Show and The Colbert Report. Best of luck to all the nominees!

Matt and Trey Know How to Party

by Mike Henneberger

Losing to Phil Collins at anything is not an easy thing to let go. Trust me. So when Rolling Stone caught up with Matt Stone and Trey Parker to talk to them about their recent Best Musical Theater Album Grammy nomination for The Book of Mormon, it also brought up some bad memories

"We have to win. I’m not losing to Phil Collins again," Parker told Rolling Stone, referring to the 2000 Grammy Awards when he and Stone were nominated for "Blame Canada" from South Park: Bigger, Longer, Uncut, but lost to Phil Collins’s Tarzan track "You’ll Be in My Heart."

So this year, Matt, Trey and Book of Mormon co-composer/lyricist Robert Lopez have a pretty foolproof plan to guarantee a win. All I can say is that involves a party soundtracked by Elton John and Billy Joel and catered by P.F. Chang's. Is there any other kind of party? Like I said: foolproof.

Check out the Rolling Stone story for Matt and Trey’s full plan to pander to the Grammy Academy and to see what they really think about the Emmys.

Patton Oswalt, Louis CK and Book of Mormon Score Grammy Nominations

Posted by:

This year's Grammy nominations were announced today, and in addition to The Book of Mormon's no-brainer nod for Best Musical Theater Album, two Comedy Central Records releases were nominated in the Best Comedy Album category: Patton Oswalt: Finest Hour and Louis CK: Hilarious. It's just like during the Civil War when brothers from border states would find themselves fighting on opposite sides, except with nicer gift baskets.

After the jump, you can listen to a clip from Finest Hour and watch Patton, Louis and Matt Stone & Trey Parker's most recent Daily Show appearances.

Congrats to all of the nominees!

Announcing The Second Annual Comedy Awards

Posted by:

Last year, Comedy Central honored industry greats with the inaugural Comedy Awards, and this year, they aim to do the same. The second annual televised event, dedicated to celebrating the very best in comedic films, actors, TV, stand-up and digital content, will tape at New York's historical Hammerstein Ballroom on Saturday, April 26, 2012, and will air on Comedy Central Sunday, May 6, 2012.

Last year's show featured such funny people as Tina Fey, Louis CK, Kristen Wiig and Eddie Murphy. Although this year's presenters are yet to be announced, it's a solid bet that the second annual awards will live up to its strong first showing.

The people behind the scenes are no lightweights, either. In keeping with last year's selection process, nominees will be chosen by an esteemed Board of Directors. Previous board members include such comedy greats as Whoopi Goldberg, Billy Crystal, Chris Rock, Jon Stewart and Phil Rosenthal. From the nominees, winners are then selected by an invitation-only voting body of actors, writers, directors and producers who are active and involved members of the comedy community. Fans will also have the opportunity to sound off, nominating their favorites in special online categories at thecomedyawards.com.

In addition to celebrating successful comedians, The Comedy Awards are once again teaming up with the Entertainment Industry Foundation (EIF) to support The American Comedy Fund, dedicated to providing financial support, health benefits, and resources for up-and-comers and comedians in need.

More details about this year's board, nominees and presenters are still in the works, so be sure to check back in early 2012 for more information and sign up for email updates at thecomedyawards.com.

Jon Stewart Honored for His Influence

Posted by:

What do Jon Stewart, the Duke of Cambridge, and Dallas Mavericks power forward Dirk Nowitzki all have in common? Sadly, not much (though I hear Nowitzki can deliver a pretty solid comedic monologue). AskMen decided to rectify this wrong by including them all in its Top 49 Most Influential Men of 2011. Stewart, who took the numero uno slot on last year's list, came in this year at number 12, which is, of course, completely unacceptable and probably a mistake on their part. Some of the randoms on this roster really make me scratch my head. Some Steve something or other takes the grand prize this year. Never even heard of this guy.

The Daily Show airs Monday through Thursday at 11/10c.

Environmental Media Association Honors Futurama Holiday Spectacular

Posted by:

I'm not saying humans are responsible for global warming. For all we know, it was the fault of polar bears or trout. Maybe smog is just a cloud that needs a bath, right? But still, we should all be working together to clean up this little home we call Earthicus (I am the only person who calls it that). The Environmental Media Association recently honored Futurama for "spreading the word about going green," in the The Futurama Holiday Spectacular. Here is a clip from the segment that garnered them the award.

Visit the Futurama site for videos and upcoming air-times. And check out Address The Mess for some tips on going green.

The People's Choice Awards, which are sort of like the Kids Choice Awards but for people, have just started the nominating process for their 2012 ceremony, and both Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert are among the possible nominees in the Favorite Late Night TV Host category. Click here to choose them to be nominated, but please note: only people can vote. If you are not a people, your vote will be voided.

And in case you forgot, things don't always end amicably when Jon and Stephen are nominated for the same award (NSFW):
