Vote For Your Favorite Comics in Week 3 of Stand-Up Month

Posted by:

Comedy Central's Stand-Up Month is very similar to the American presidential election, except the winners of Stand-Up Month will have their stand-up specials air Friday night, while the winner of the presidential election can make a law stating their self-produced stand-up special has to air every Friday night on every channel forever. Vote for your favorite stand-ups while we still have the right to do so!

The voting options for this week are Jeffrey Ross, Gabriel Iglesias, TJ Miller, Deray Davis, Kevin Hart, Tony Rock, Donald Glover, Carlos Mencia and Finesse Mitchell. Here's one of our favorite clips from Jeff Ross:

Go to the Comedy Central Stand-Up page to Watch, Like and Follow your favorites. Then tune in to see who wins Friday starting at 9/8c.

And for more stand-up, don't miss the premiere of JB Smoove: That's How I Dooz It, Saturday at 10/9c.

Carlos Mencia Explores New Territory

Posted by:

This year, you could brave the stores to buy Christmas gifts and be rewarded with a face full of pepper spray for your troubles. Or you could skip all that bologna, stay home and just order Carlos Mencia: New Territory for everyone on your list. It's available today on digital album and DVD, and to the best of my knowledge, no one has been attacked by a non-lethal weapon while trying to by it.

Here's a sharable widget with an audio clip and a video clip and links to buy the version of your choosing. Merry not-getting-pepper-sprayed!

Carlos Mencia Celebrates America in His New Special

Posted by:

I know this is going to be a very controversial statement, but I like America. Hear me out before you drive me away with pitchforks! America is where I live, and I'M GREAT, ergo America is great! The defense rests. And, as you can see in this clip from his new stand-up special, Carlos Mencia: New Territory, Carlos agrees with me that America is a pretty awesome place to live, although his explanation is a little more in-depth.

Carlos Mencia: New Territory premieres Sunday at 10/9c. Watch another clip after the jump.

Also, Carlos will perform for free as part of Comedy Central's Pop-Up Stand-Up at the Ice House Comedy Club in Pasadena, California on Monday.

Carlos Mencia Loses Weight but Gains a New Perspective

Posted by:

If you've seen Carlos Mencia recently, you may have noticed something, or rather, a lack of something. The man has shed some pounds just in time for his comeback to stand-up. Weight isn't the only thing that's changed. The New York Times profiled Carlos to find out how his comedy has shifted since his last special…

In his Comedy Central special… Mr. Mencia takes a more personal tack… riffing about his father’s missing thumb and his brother’s taking the citizenship test in Spanish. He also touches on darker topics, like how much firepower the United States expended on starving Somali pirates. The overall theme, though, is the divisions rending the country and how easy we have it, even during tough times.

“I’m from a different country and I’ve traveled,” said the comic, who was born in Honduras and returned there as a teenager. “We’re taking America for granted right now.”

He cites a bit from his act: “ ‘America is such a great country, we have fat poor people.’ It’s one of those jokes that doesn’t hit people right away, because it’s so prevalent that we don’t get it.”

You should read the whole article. It does a good job offering a snapshot of where Carlos's controversial career is at right now.

His brand new special Carlos Mencia: New Territory premieres next Sunday, December 4 at 10/9c. And be sure to follow the clues to find out when and where he'll be performing for the next Pop-Up Stand-Up show.

Where Will Carlos Mencia Pop Up for Some Stand-Up?

All the best things in life pop up: books, weasels, Internet ads containing viruses. All of those things are great! But my favorite thing that pops up has to be stand-up. "WHAAAA?" you might say as you spit your coffee onto your computer, "Stand-up doesn't pop up!" I'm sorry to inform you, you are misinformed. Check out the Pop-Up Stand-Up site to track the clues and find out where Carlos Mencia is performing for free. Here's a clip from his latest special to get you warmed up:

Pablo Francisco Pops Up in New York

by Mike Henneberger

On Tuesday night Pablo Francisco popped up at Gotham Comedy Club for Comedy Central's latest Pop-Up Stand-Up show presented by Corona. The full house of fans followed clues from Facebook and twitter to find a free show from Pablo and friends. They say a picture paints a thousand words, and since Pablo speaks about a thousand words per second, these pictures from Tuesday night’s show probably equal pretty close to a set of encyclopedias.

Check out Pop-Up Stand-Up to watch videos from the shows and other related clips. Carlos Mencia will be the next comic coming to you courtesy of Corona. Follow Comedy Central on Facebook and twitter for clues to help you find out when and where the next free show is.

Donald Glover: Weirdo to Air in November

Posted by:

Donald Glover, the hip hoppingest cast member of Community, is a busy man. Not only is he busy protecting New York as Spider-Man, he's also been preparing a new one-hour special for Comedy Central. Jeff Dunham, Weird Al and Carlos Mencia all have specials too, but Donald is notable because this is his first time doing a full hour for television. Pretty accomplished for only being 27 years old. I'm 25, and I've never even had a conversation that lasted an hour. Here's a clip of Donald from his Comedy Central Presents back in 2010.

Donald Glover: Weirdo will air Sunday, November 20. In the meantime, a clip from his 2009 Live at Gotham appearance can be seen after the jump.
