Dane Cook, the standup comic and a featured actor in films like “Dan in Real Life” and “Mr. Brooks,” has become the latest funnyman to enlist for a tour of duty of Broadway: he’ll star opposite Josh Hamilton in a production of Neil LaBute’s “Fat Pig” that is planned for the spring, press representatives for the show said on Thursday.

Fat Pig is an acclaimed Neil LaBute play about a man, of average weight, who falls in love with a large woman and is ridiculed by his coworkers as a result. Dane would play the character of Carter, a superficial office mate attempting to convince the main character to dump his new girlfriend.

For comedians, Mr. Cook said, Broadway is “the deus ex machina,” adding: “You want it to come down and you want to be part of that closing moment.”

Laughing at his highfalutin vocabulary, Mr. Cook explained it was a holdover from the years he spent in high school as a summer stock performer, and “my old Cole Porter song-and-dance days, when I used to have dalliances with those words.”

“I was wearing the top hat and the tails,” Mr. Cook said. “‘Anything Goes’ was actually the first play I ever did. Maybe that’ll be the next step.”

About a month ago it was also announced that Robin Williams would make his own Broadway debut (as an actor in a play) next year. Jim Gaffigan and Chris Rock are also slated for Broadway debuts. Ben Stiller and Bobby Canavale will be returning to Broadway. Currently on Broadway, Ben Walker stars in the critically acclaimed Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson. And of course, who could forget Matt Stone and Trey Parker's The Book of Mormon?!

So, to all the producers without comedians in their Broadway plays this upcoming season: Get on that shit! Classically trained actors aren't fun! Rob Schneider for A Raisin in the Sun!

It's nice seeing such pure sincerity bubble up from the internet, particularly comedians. Good work, everybody!

Marley got a thumbs-up from an official from the Guinness Book of Records on Thursday night at Portland's Comedy Connection, where he broke the previous record of 38 hours, 6 minutes, held by Lindsay Webb of Australia.

Marley started Wednesday morning and yukked it up until he reached the 40-hour mark. He says he went 18 hours before having to repeat jokes.

Guinness rules allowed a five-minute break every hour. Rules also stipulated that there had to be at least 10 people in the audience at all times. They paid $10 per hour to watch.

I'm not sure if I like the five-minute break rule, but it is impressive that he went 18 hours without repeating a joke (although in my world, repeating a joke would result in automatic disqualification). I wonder if he went up with a notepad the size of War and Peace.

First of all, let me say to Bob Marley, congratulations! The fact that you did it for a great cause more than justifies this insane attempt. But aren't all world records just a way of rewarding weirdos for not grooming themselves?

Back in 2007 and early 2008, there was a bit of tit-for-tat competition between Dane Cook and Dave Chappelle as they both tried to claim the endurance record at The Laugh Factory (which had been initially held by Richard Pryor), ending when Cook performed for seven hours straight. So I guess some insanely successful human beings also get caught up in this hoopla.

Are you excited for next week? I am excited for next week. And not just because I'm going to stockpile so much candy this Halloween that I'm going to have my dinner taken care of for the next few days. I'm excited because I will be attending the New York Comedy Festival.

I shall be photo-blogging, video-blogging and, yes, even word-blogging the event. If you see a short kid at the festival who looks about twelve years old and is holding a digital camera, a video camera and a phone for the twitters, that is probably me. It might be another blogger that looks like a prepubescent child, but it is probably little ol' Gonzalo Cordova.

Oh, I'm also going to be talking to comedians and asking them questions. Like pretty famous comedians. Like people who are my heroes. You guys will see. You will all see!

Which reminds me, have you guys even seen the line-up for NYCF? The performers include Louis C.K., Ricky Gervais, Patton Oswalt, Mike Birbiglia, Andy Samberg, Tracy Morgan, Dane Cook, Bill Maher, Artie Lange and more. Wow those guys are all very popular! Honestly, it won't be anywhere near as much fun, but I promise there will be a ton of surprises. And a ton of free food for me to eat (hopefully).

The 2009 New York Comedy Festival is still more than a month away. Fortunately, there are some ways to make it the wait a little easier. Obviously, you could have yourself cryogenically frozen and revived in November. You could move the island and hope you're transported through space and time to the festival. Or you could just watch Friday Night Stand-Up this week, featuring specials from NYCF performers Dane Cook, Kevin James, Ben Bailey and Robert Kelly and culminating in the world television premiere of Jeff Garlin: Young and Handsome.
