Before They Get Stale: Paul Scheer, Reggie Watts and Sue Galloway

Posted by:

The ECNYs opened up their nominations to the general public, including one blank slot for "Best New Category" where you help create a new category for the New York comedy award show. [ECNY]

Paul Scheer's fake TV spot teasing a parody police procedural NTSF:SD:SUV is now becoming a real show on Adult Swim. It's a Thanksgiving miracle! [Deadline]

Reggie Watts visited the Electro-Harmonix office and he, wait for it, electro-harmonized there. It's another Thanksgiving miracle! [YouTube]

Aaron Glaser and Sue Galloway have a late-entry Thanksgiving video that's pretty awesome. There are just too many fucking Thanksgiving miracles! [Splitsider]

The Hangover 2's synopsis has finally been leaked, including the reason they are in Thailand in the first place. SPOILER ALERT: It's to celebrate Ed Helms's character's wedding. [Collider]

Are Will Forte and Bill Hader joining the cast of Ghostbusters 3? I don't know. Just eat your goddamned turkey and shut the fuck up! [Moviefone]

Coverage of the ECNY Awards, aka the Elephants Can Not Yawn Awards

Posted by:

Monday night, I went to the ECNYs (or as host Jon Friedman called it, the Elephants Can Not Yawn Awards) and I brought my handy friend Mr. Flip Cam with me. There was a red carpet, with lights and a velvet rope. Shit just got real (classy). It was weird seeing some of the usually schlubby comics dressing marginally less schlubby. I talked to some of the very talented nominees and presenters before the show. Enjoy!

2009 ECNY Awards Coverage from Gonzalo Cordova on Vimeo.

Congratulations to all the winners and nominees. Let's all keep reaching for that star at the end of the rainbow!

Even though it's already made its way around the internet at this point, I've posted the winners of the 2009 ECNYs after the jump, because I love you.

Before They Get Stale: Maria Bamford, Kyle Kinane and Matt Walsh

Posted by:

Maria Bamford is interviewed in this podcast, and it's pretty great. [Women's Radio]

Kyle Kinane lists four ways to kill a party, if by "kill a party," he means "create lasting memories for everyone at that party." [Asylum]

Matt Walsh has some tips for how to survive your twenties, if by "how to survive your twenties," he means, "these are all things Gonzalo Cordova is currently doing anyway." [GQ]

The Oscars rejected Sacha Baron Cohen's Avatar sketch. Probably because they were afraid James Cameron's ego would grow agitated, take physical form and destroy half of downtown Los Angeles. [NY Mag]

Eddie Izzard says he will not host the Independent Spirit Awards in drag, "Wearing dresses and fighting people is my main thing, but I'm not going to be in girly mode at all." [USA Today]

The Office's Angela Kinsey and Ellie Kemper talk about the future of the show now that there's a baby involved. [Television Without Pity]

Eugene Mirman weather reporting outside in a snow storm, shirtless, shivering, on a roof. No big deal. [YouTube]

Get to know the ECNYs emerging comics nominees. Some really great comics were nominated this year. [Time Out]

The ECNY Nominations Are Out!

Posted by:

Picture 1While everyone has been busy caring about the Grammys, the Emmys and the Oscars (just kidding, no one cares about the Grammys), we've been busy following the ECNYs, an awards show for local New York comedians. There are a ton of my personal favorites nominated this year, so I'm pretty excited.

The actual awards show will be held at Comix on March 8 at 8 pm. It's a pretty fun show where people get drunk and then win awards and then get more drunk. Anyway, here are the actual nominations…

Best Female Stand-Up:
Claudia Cogan
Katina Corrao
Morgan Murphy
Giulia Rozzi
Brooke Van Poppelen

Best Male Stand-Up:
Hannibal Buress
Pete Holmes
Sean Patton
Rory Scovel
Baron Vaughn

Best Sketch Comedy Group:
BoF (Best of Friends)
Elephant Larry
Murderfist
New Exc!tement
Team Submarine

Before They Get Stale: Dan Harmon, Michael Blaiklock and Weird Al Yankovic

Posted by:

58052513On his radio show this morning, Glenn Beck discussed last night's South Park at length. Was he also drowning puppies in his own pee the whole time? I don't know, I'm just asking questions. [Glenn Beck]

Dan Harmon may currently be the creator and show runner of a polished and funny sitcom on network television, but before that, he was the crazy wizard of trippy Channel 101 internet shorts. [Paste]

Speaking of Dan Harmon, the new Community web series Community College Chronicles is pretty great! [NBC]

The Sklar Brothers have a new Sirius Radio sports radio show. If you like sports, but also like sitting motionless in place, this is basically perfect for you. [AST]

The ECNY nominations are now open. You can vote for your favorite New York comedian, sketch or improv group and a bunch of other categories. I voted for Slumdog Millionaire in everything. [ECNY]

Michael Blaiklock from Secret Girlfriend is in this video about how easily super awkward situations can become super duper awkward. [Funny or Die]

From the creator of Family Guy comes every show that is on Fox ever. [College Humor]

Weird Al Yankovic explains auto-tune. There are two things I trust Yankovic to explain to me, ephemeral pop music trends and food. Because of how all of his ephemeral pop music parodies are about food. [Buzzfeed]

I have no idea what is going on in this video with Thomas Lennon and Ben Garant, but I know I am glad that it's labeled part one, because that means we are going to get more. [Funny or Die]

Todd Barry talks about the advantages and disadvantages of performing at music venues, comedy clubs and rock festivals. [Pegasus News]

Greg Giraldo and Michael Ian Black are going to be in a new NBC show, and you can get tickets to the taping. [Punchline]

ECNY Stands for Excellent Comedy, No? Yes!

Posted by:

So I went to the ECNY awards presented at Comix last night, and it was amazing, fun, awesome, exciting and great. Basically, it was a lot of good adjectives. There were a lot of hilarious comedian presenters, nominees and winners over the course of the night.

Jon Friedman, from The Rejection Show and Late Night with Jimmy Fallon blog, hosted the event, informing us that since the ECNY Awards no longer stand for any particular words, he'd made up a new title for the event, "Excellent Comedy. No? YES!"

Kicking off the night, Kristen Schaal presented the Best Male Stand-up Award, and then she made every penis pun imaginable.

I tried to take pictures for you guys even though all I had was a crappy cellphone camera, but my work is usually crappy anyway, so I didn't think you guys would notice.

For the rest of the night's recap, please follow after the jump.
