John Oliver Outside the G20 Summit

Posted by: Matt Tobey

The New York Times has a slide-show up with pictures of the protests outside this weekend's G20 Summit in Pittsburgh. And among the photos was this one featuring The Daily Show's John Oliver talking to a gentleman who I assume was there to protest the deleterious effects of globalization on the plaid forests of Micronesia.

A Very Long Post About The Eugene Mirman Comedy Festival

Posted by: Gonzalo Cordova

Picture 6I don't want to brag (I do want to brag), but I spent all weekend at the Eugene Mirman Comedy Festival, and I had more fun than ten of you's combined. There were roast pigs, Daniel Kitsons (well, just one), live coverage of the Emmys, games of MASHO, explosions (of laughter), ejaculations (of LOLs) and uber Mirman nerds wearing Eugene Mirman masks to show their support. That last one was make-believe, but we were all wearing Eugene Mirman masks in our hearts.

I took a lot of pictures and wrote a lot of notes. I looked like such a nerd, but I did it for you. I'm like Bryan Adams, because everything I do, I do it for you. I did it for you to feel jealous of me. Feel my fun!

Seriously though, the weekend was filled to the brim with amazing comedians and it was the best weekend of my life (not really true, but it feels true!)

There's a lot to get through, so I'm going to try to summarize it as good-at-writing-ly as possible.

Click after the jump to read my coverage of The Eugene Mirman Comedy Festival.

The Daily Show Correspondents on the Meaning of Life

Posted by: Matt Tobey

What is the meaning of life? I always thought it was to invent a blanket with sleeves, but we pulled that off and we still live, so it's probably something else. Maybe we're supposed to invent a couch with pants, but I really can't be sure. Hopefully the Daily Show team has some better ideas.

The Daily Show returns with new episodes tonight at 11pm / 10c.

If you missed any of the other new Ask a Correspondent videos, they can all be found after the jump.

The Daily Show Correspondents on Riding Animals to Work

Posted by: Dennis DiClaudio

From Indecision

Now, one might think that asking people what animal they'd like to ride work would be a silly thing to do, but, as I think you'll discover from watching this video it's anything but. It seems goofy and idiotic in theory, but in practice it just works…

The Daily Show Correspondents on Workplace Romance

Posted by: Matt Tobey

I work by myself at home, so you'd probably assume there wouldn't be much in the way of workplace romances going on around here. And you'd be right, though my coffee cup told me yesterday that he heard my microwave hooked up with my ottoman, but you didn't hear that from me. Meanwhile, it sounds like there's plenty of action going on around the Daily Show offices.

Exclusive: The Daily Show Correspondents and Their Childhood Dreams

Posted by: Dennis DiClaudio

From Indecision

Earlier today, President Obama implored our nation's children to work hard in school so that they might one day be able to realize their dreams. That's kinda nice, huh?

Too bad he wasn't around to help inspire the Daily Show correspondents. Maybe they would have been able to do something with their lives and maybe get on television or something…

Before They Get Stale: John Oliver, Patton Oswalt and Jon Friedman

Posted by: Gonzalo Cordova

57680996John Oliver says, "I like being afforded the opportunities to try other things around it (movies, etc) but there's never anything I want to do more than go back to The Daily Show office and attempt to trivialize the world's problems." [Boston Comedy]

As it turns out, the death panels are actually real. But no need to worry. Fortunately, since death panels are government run, they won't be very effective at killing us anyway. [Funny or Die]

Funny People is being released in England this weekend, so the promotional press junket has just kicked into gear now over there. This is, by far, the best headline of the bunch, "Horny Sandler Still 20 at Heart." [The Sun]

Patton Oswalt says, "It's as dismissive and dehumanizing to say that comedians are bitter and angry… Depending on the day and the time, they're pissed off, they're bitter, they're happy, they're friendly. They're like anyone else." [IFC]

Patton Oswalt talks about his role on Caprica, "I’m just going to be a sort of Jon Stewart-esque presence that’s always going to be on television in the background." Politicians, Cylons… same difference. [A.V. Club]

Tony Hale on Arrested Development, "Everything was such a surprise that there really wasn’t a lot time for preparation. You were just kind of thrown in, like, 'Here’s your hook, and sometimes you might have a mannequin hand.'" [NY Mag]

Role Model's Bobb'e J. Thompson wants you to stay in school. Graduating is no excuse! March back into your old high school and demand they let you re-enroll. [Vimeo]

Demetri Martin and Ang Lee talk about making Taking Woodstock. [Movieline]

Jon Friedman talks to The Sound of Young America about building a comedy show based on the idea of rejection. [Maximum Fun]

John Oliver Tries to Scare MBA Students Straight

Posted by: Matt Tobey

As John Oliver illustrated on last night's Daily Show, there are basically two kinds of businessperson one can choose to become. There are those who violate all rules of ethics, morality and human decency in the name of making a blood-stained buck only to have their lives shattered as they're torn away from their families and mistresses and shipped off to do decades of hard time in prison, and there are those who don't get caught.
