Sean Patton Killed It on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon

Posted by: Gonzalo Cordova

Sean Patton is great. If you look up "great" in the dictionary, you probably wouldn't see a picture of Sean Patton because dictionaries don't have pictures for every definition. That is just crazy. But the use-in-sentence section might say, "Sean Patton is pretty great," because I hear all those Oxford guys are really into the local New York alt stand-up scene. "Indubitably!" they'd probably say. Here is Sean Patton on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon doing a great job.

Stephen Colbert on Jimmy Fallon Tonight

Posted by: Matt Tobey

Stephen Colbert appeared on Late Night with Conan O'Brien a number of times, but tonight he makes his first appearance on the show since Jimmy Fallon took over hosting duties. He'll be there to talk about the US Speedskating team. Here's a recent Colbert Report segment about a Glamour Magazine poll involving Stephen, Jimmy and Conan.

The Colbert Report airs Monday through Thursday at 11:30pm / 10:30c.

Conan O'Brien Makes an Official Public Statement

Posted by: Gonzalo Cordova

16967833With the current late night game of musical chairs going on right now, there's been a lot of speculation. For a while, the ball was in Conan O'Brien's court. Sure, the ball was damaged, made worn and airless by NBC's mismanagement, but it was Conan's move nonetheless. And now he has reached a decision. Conan will not be moving to 12:05 am.

It was my mistaken belief that, like my predecessor, I would have the benefit of some time and, just as important, some degree of ratings support from the prime-time schedule. Building a lasting audience at 11:30 is impossible without both.

But sadly, we were never given that chance. After only seven months, with my Tonight Show in its infancy, NBC has decided to react to their terrible difficulties in prime-time by making a change in their long-established late night schedule…

I sincerely believe that delaying the Tonight Show into the next day to accommodate another comedy program will seriously damage what I consider to be the greatest franchise in the history of broadcasting. The Tonight Show at 12:05 simply isn’t the Tonight Show. Also, if I accept this move I will be knocking the Late Night show, which I inherited from David Letterman and passed on to Jimmy Fallon, out of its long-held time slot. That would hurt the other NBC franchise that I love, and it would be unfair to Jimmy.

So it has come to this: I cannot express in words how much I enjoy hosting this program and what an enormous personal disappointment it is for me to consider losing it…

My hope is that NBC and I can resolve this quickly so that my staff, crew, and I can do a show we can be proud of, for a company that values our work.

So there you have it. It's still unclear what will happen now. The entire statement is well-worth a read.

Because the whole story is a personal huge bummer, I've decided to post a clip of Robert Smigel and Dino Stamatopoulos reminiscing about the good ol' days of Late Night with Conan O'Brien.

Before They Get Stale: Gallagher, Max Silvestri and Ben Stiller

Posted by: Gonzalo Cordova

T901809_01Whenever a day's news has been especially harsh on my delicate sensibilities, I can always count on Gallagher's craziness to brighten up my day. Here he is smashing stuff. [Comic's Comic]

Max Silvestri tries to understand what the big deal is with the new Google Nexus One phone, which as I understand it, is a new phone.  [Atom]

Speaking of the Google Nexus One phone, which I'm pretty sure is a phone, here's a video about it's most useful feature. [Landline]

During a dress rehearsal for Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, all the Muppets went into an impromptu performance of One (Is the Loneliest Number). If you are allergic to whimsy, you should know this has a lot of whimsy. [LNWJF]

Slashfilm has some official photos from MacGruber, Your Highness and Scott Pilgrim Vs the World. All of those movies look like my new favorite movie. [MacGruber, Your Highness, Scott Pilgrim]

The Hangover just became the best selling comedy DVD of all time. This bodes particularly well for the upcoming sequel The Hangover 2: Alcohol Poisoning. [Variety]

Ben Stiller talks about directing, acting and comedy. [Making Of]

David Letterman is in a bit of trouble over a transgender joke he made this week on the show. I'm sure after the sex scandal though, Letterman is just relieved his penis isn't on trial this time. [Huffington Post]

Before They Get Stale: Adam Carolla, Aubrey Plaza and Michael Cera

Posted by: Gonzalo Cordova

57526170Adam Carolla is set to star in a new pilot for NBC produced by Jimmy Kimmel. It's about a contractor who is trying to "rebuild" (get it?) his life after a divorce. [Inside TV]

I'm still super excited about the news that Louis CK's new stand-up film Hilarious is premiering at Sundance. It sounds great, "It’s a very well-lubed-up show. It’s like the third version of the Macbook after the other ones that had the bugs." [EW]

Aubrey Plaza talks about writing for all different kinds of comedy. [Making Of]

Bad news for freelancers, Late Night with Jimmy Fallon has cut their joke faxers free. Wonder if it had anything to do with the media coverage about the fax lines? [Comic's Comic]

Sketch performer Michael Terry proposed to his girlfriend by setting up a fake audition for the both of them. I hope he spends the rest of his life making up for the fact that there was no real audition and that he tricked her trickily. [The Apiary]

The Onion News Network hits another one out of the park: "VH1 Reality Show Bus Crashes In California Causing Major Slut Spillage." Watch it! [ONN]

Joe Mande brings us an amazing Avatar make-up tutorial. [Videogum]

Sean Penn might still do that Three Stooges movie to be directed by the Farrelly brothers. Because entertainment news is stranger than fiction sometimes. [Boston Herald]

James Franco is guest starring in the next episode of 30 Rock, but I'm not really as excited about that as I am about the anime girlfriend pillow that is also co-starring on that same episode. [Movieline]

Here's a video of Jersey Shore's Pauly D styling Michael Cera's hair as promotion for the new movie Youth In Revolt. Is Youth In Revolt a movie about things not making sense? Because this video doesn't make a lot of sense! [MTV Movies]

This funny short sketch reminds us all, the only boat we ever need is in our hearts. [Funny or Die]

All The Christmas-Related Comedy Viral Videos I Could Find

Posted by: Gonzalo Cordova

Christmas, the single most commercial holiday of the year, is finally upon us. I've already started brushing up on all my holiday tunes. "On the twelfth day of Christmas, my true love gave to me one gift certificate to Best Buy." "Jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way to the Sharper Image for Dad's upside-down writing space pen present." "Deck the halls with money from forgetful relatives, fa la la la la, la la la money."

But do you guys know what the true meaning of Christmas is? That's right, holiday-themed viral videos. Here's Marc Maron explaining the story of Christmas…

That sounds about right. Thank you, Marc Maron. Here is a Hanukkah zebra I made for you.

There are so many more comedy viral videos I want to stuff down your stockings. Click after the jump to keep reading.

Someone Got Old Man Letterman a Twitter Machine

Posted by: Gonzalo Cordova

Twitter is a machine invented by Jimmy Fallon, who is on the show David Letterman used to be on, the Late Night. You can get the Twitter machine through the Sharper Image, and it comes with a complimentary mouse for clicking. So now you can tell all of your 3,000 followers that it smells like veal and peppers. David Letterman, it's the future now!

David Letterman tweeted later, "I like Barbara. Do you?" And also, " I'm making toast!" I am on a need-to-know basis with that information, because I needed to know it so bad! You can follow David Letterman's tweets by clicking here.

Before They Get Stale: Aziz Ansari, Matt Besser and Judd Apatow

Posted by: Gonzalo Cordova

Hkg2971137Way to go Aziz Ansari and Jason Woliner! They pitched three films to Judd Apatow and all three were picked up! One of them is the RAAAAAAAANDY film! [Variety]

Aubrey Plaza on being more productive, "I've been trying to work on some movie ideas and stuff like that. It's hard to balance… but I'm trying to be one of those people who writes and performs and does everything all of the time." [College Humor]

Upright Citizen Brigade's Matt Besser wrote a review for a Mountain Goats album. He's officially more in touch with young people than I am, and I am only twenty-three years old. [We Rate Stuff]

Not only did Pilgrims have to deal with deadly winter conditions, a dearth of basic supplies and Native Americans' stubbornness in being grifted and eradicated, but they also had to deal with the complexities of dating. [Videogum]

Remember those party pictures at the end of The Hangover? Here are some of the images they didn't use in the film. Surprisingly, this is SFW (i.e. no extra images of Zach Galifianakis getting a BJ). [TMZ]

Judd Apatow talks about his next project, "I like making movies where I reveal myself and share my life experience, but I may be out of life experience at this point. So, the next movie might be about an Eskimo. That might be all I’ve got." [Metro News]

Speaking of Judd Apatow, here is the edited-down version of Apatow's live chat. This makes me like Judd Apatow more, but some of the stupid questions make me like the internet much, much less. JK, I still love you, internet. [Funny or Die

Neil Young took some time off from sleeping with all the sexiest grandmas to sing The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air theme song on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. [LNWJF]

Insight from the Colbert Report and Late Night with Jimmy Fallon Writers

Posted by: Gonzalo Cordova

jokes_nycf2_r13

As part of the New York Comedy Festival, I attended two Paley Center speaker panels (Speaking panels at a media museum?! Will my crazy drunken antics never stop?!) with the writers for Late Night with Jimmy Fallon and The Colbert Report. I was able to talk to both writing staffs before each panel. Here's a video interview with the Colbert writers.

So that was awesome. We also got to sit down with the Late Night with Jimmy Fallon writers and talk to them for a few minutes. Click after the jump to read on.

Billy Connolly on his character from Pixar's The Bear and the Bow, "King Fergus, a big fat guy with one leg whose one joy is to hunt bears, and by magic, his wife becomes a bear. You can't even imagine what happens next." Does his wife die in the first ten minutes? [AMC TV]

The Late Night with Jimmy Fallon bloggers screened the trailer of Paranormal Activity in the Late Night offices. Chaos ensued. [LNWF]

The Bentzen Ball sounds like it was really fun, and I missed it, because I stink. Here's a bunch of interviews with Bentzen Ball comedians Tig Notaro, Dave Hill, Rory Scovel, Kyle Kinane, Morgan Murphy and Seth Herzog. [The Apiary]
