If you've been wondering whatever happened to Cool World star Brad Pitt after the 1992 live-action/animated classic, wonder no more. The elusive actor was on last night's Daily Show to talk about his non-profit Make It Right and the film Moneyball, which is sadly not the long-awaited Cool World sequel.
The interview went long, but you can now see the full, unedited version right here:
So, what's the easiest way to help Earth? Learning and knowing stuff about it.
Learning and knowing… but you said "easy!"
Actually, I said "easiest," and the easiest way to learn and know stuff is by watching movies about stuff.
MOVIIIIES!!!
Documentaries can be educational and ent–
Documentariiiiies…
No — will you just — some documentaries are actually really–
Explain how!
I mean, you like a movie that's based on a story, right?
I guess…
Ripped from the headlines?
Keep talking…
Here are seven documentaries that are rich with drama just like you might see played out on screen by Jack on 24 or that guy from Angel. And…youjustmightlearnsomethingabouttheEarthtotallybyaccident. There are guns in one!
For those of us not lucky enough to attend Sundance, thankfully we have intrepid National Public Radio personality and This American Life host Ira Glass, who's been working with Birbiglia on the film and is spearheading an effort to get it released in theaters. (He's almost too nice… ) As you can see, Ira needs you to help him help you:
"Now, we need your help, no kidding. At Sundance we hope to find someone to distribute the film and we want to demonstrate that our listeners might show up for it in theaters someday."
So why don't you sleepwalk your ass on over to this page and submit your info so we can all enjoy us some big-screen Birbiglia (still does not say "bibliographies"), and not just the snobby cinematic elite.
As promised, George Lucas returned to The Daily Show last night to discuss his upcoming film Red Tails, which should not be confused with the series of Irish porn videos of the same name. It's a really interesting interview, and the message boards have been going crazy for hours debating whether Jon or George shot first.
After appearing on The Daily Show in 2010, George Lucas returns to the show tonight. However, this will actually be his fifth appearance. The next one will be his sixth, and then in 20 years his first three appearances will air with younger actors playing George and Jon.
Anyway, be sure to tune in tonight to see George Lucas discuss his new film Red Tails. In the meantime, here he is answering the haters back in '010:
So word around the old showbiz water cooler (which is filled with ketamine-infused strawberry champagne, FYI) is that writer/actor/stand-up comedian/voice-over provider/reader-to-peoplePatton Oswalt may be under consideration for the holiest of Hollywood holies: the Oscar nod.
Seems some in the biz believe his show-stealing performance in last year's Diablo Cody joint Young Adult could get him the nomination, though Oswalt himself seems to think it's pretty unlikely:
The 42-year-old is being mentioned as a possible supporting-actor Oscar contender … We’ll find out if he’s in the running when the Academy Award nominations are announced Jan. 24… Oswalt acknowledged that he’s a long shot for an Oscar nod, but agreed it’s “heady stuff” to be in the conversation.
Were this to occur, Patton would be under consideration for both the Oscar anda Grammy Award for his latest effort, Patton Oswalt: Finest Hour (up for Best New Comedy Album). This would make him, like, the Bo Jackson of comedic performing. Or the Deion Sanders. Or Tony Romo, who's apparently a pretty good golfer? I don't know, man. Why don't you just consult this list of multi-sport athletes and finish the analogy yourself?
The latest video from Extra Butter, Please teaches us a few valuable lessons, namely that fatter is funnier, that missions are indeed possible, and that when there's a calendar event pending, love is in the air:
Having met my betrothed during National Volunteer Blood Donor Month, I can tell you from personal experience that the Holidays/Observances really bring out something transcendental in the human spirit. There's nothing like when you're walking down the street on a brisk Mother-In-Law Day and your hat blows away and you run after it only to find the most beautiful woman in the world holding it as she stares into your eyes and you just know… this is the one, the person with whom I am going to grow old. It doesn't matter you had no reason to be celebrating Mother-In-Law Day or that you did and you are an adulterous jerk: just accept the magic at face value and give yourself over to the Observances Spirit.
One of his comments stuck out as particularly interesting. When asked if he'd consider writing and directing a movie, Louis wrote [one big "sic" to all of it]…
I would love yo make more movies. That is a FUCKING HARD JOB though, dude. Just to get it made. You can't even do anything else while you're tyring to get it made and then you probably won't. It's heart breaking. Then it takes a good 2 years to make and finish the movie then it maybe won't come out and then maybe it gets changed and worse than the movie not getting made, you made it, then it got changed into something you hated and then came out…
I have a dream, though. You want to hear it? Yeah? Well, okay.
I thought about what if I make another special like this one and i put it up for 5 bucks again and it goes gangbusters. It makes, say, 8 million bucks. I don't know that that is even possible. I'm trying to find out what the potential is with this one.
But so if I make 8 million, which all goes through paypal right into Pig Newton, my company that makes my show and made the special. Well I would leave the money in there and make a fucking movie…
Pretty exciting! Who doesn't want to see a new movie directed, written and probably edited by one of the most best comics alive?
1998 was such a strange and different time. Presidents were white, the most notable thing about September 11 was Harry Connick, Jr's birthday, and no one knew who Jar Jar Binks was. Well, in the period comedy Fanboys, a group of determined geeks in 1998 look to change at least one of those things by breaking into the Skywalker Ranch and stealing an early copy of Star Wars Episode I.
Watch the trailer below, then check out the rest when Fanboys makes its network television premiere this Saturday at 11/10c on Comedy Central.
As promised, Adam Sandler returned to The Daily Show last night to discuss his new movie, Jack & Jill, with his old friend and Big Daddy co-star Jon Stewart. At least, I think it was Jon Stewart. For all we know, both characters in this interview were played by Adam thanks to the magic of Hollywood.
